The game's design was inspired by Analog Horror-style videos, particularly the Local58 series and Mandela documentaries. I found these videos very distinctive, using a nostalgic analog signal style to create a uniquely eerie experience, and these elements felt well-suited for integration into a game.
During the conceptualization process, we considered how to incorporate Analog Horror elements into an interactive game, making it more than just a "walking simulator"—it would be more playable. Our first thought was the news anchor, as this profession frequently appears on television, making them a perfect protagonist for a simulated horror game.
Ultimately, we referenced the gameplay of *Papers, Please* and *Exit 8*, designing a simulated horror game where news reporting is the primary gameplay element.
The game's main objective is to allow players to experience various "strange" events in their work and daily life as news anchors. The content players choose to report will have different impacts on the city, requiring players to balance the ratings of their news programs with the frequency of reporting bizarre information. This is another reason we incorporated news elements into the game—to use metaphor to critique the media's influence on the public.
In future game iterations, we hope to add more content, including press releases, bizarre events, and the main storyline. Currently, the game's overall length is relatively short and lacks a clear main plot. I want to create a more immersive experience for players, so we will likely focus on refining the game's story. In addition, we received a lot of player feedback during game testing, with many expressing satisfaction with the glitch effects during news broadcasts. We will continue to enhance these experiences and the audio-visual effects.
